That is the test, and PIMA’s patients meet it. Families in Gaza who can no longer pay for surgery, medicine or dialysis are poor and needy in the plainest sense. Treating them is not a new category of Zakat. It is the first one.

Can I give Zakat to PIMA today?
Yes. All of PIMA’s current appeals are eligible for Zakat, so you can choose whichever one you want to support. Your gift stays restricted to Zakat-eligible use.
Is medical need itself a Zakat category?
No. Surah At-Tawbah 9:60 identifies eight categories. A patient normally qualifies because they are poor or needy and cannot afford necessary treatment, not simply because they are unwell.
Who checks whether a patient qualifies?
PIMA assesses the patient’s financial position against its approved test and records the decision. Medical necessity and Zakat eligibility are separate checks.
Can Zakat be paid directly to a hospital or supplier?
Only through the handling route approved in PIMA’s policy. The recipient, payment method and treatment must all meet that policy.
What happens if a Zakat gift cannot be used as intended?
It remains Zakat. PIMA applies it through another approved Zakat route and records the decision rather than moving it into unrestricted funds.
Can I give Zakat monthly?
Yes. Monthly giving is available on the current appeals, and each payment is treated as a Zakat gift and stays restricted.
